COMO

The Plein Air Girls went to Como on the Georges River last week for a morning's painting ..It is a very nice spot just south of Sydney and quite enjoyable to paint ..even though it was an overcast day the light was perfect. I painted this quick study in watercolour ..fast becoming my preferred plein air medium. I might do another in oil from this in my studio ..then again I might just leave it as is and remember it as a pleasant morning spent with friends ..

UNIQUE ANTIQUE

I have just finished painting the artwork onto this antique box..It is such an unusual piece , made from either Kauri or huon pine , it features this beautiful Edwardian pattern on the top...I tried out something different to paint the design onto the front of the box ..I have done it in sepia tones with a touch of off white and have created the fur on the bears using a scratch art technique..incredibly effective and such fun to do ..
Had a lovely night at the opening of the Kiama Art Society Annual exhibition on Friday night .The standard is very high this year ..Congratulations to my friend Judith for winning prizes for 2 of her beautiful watercolour paintings and also congratulations to my friend Salwa for winning a prize for her lovely oil painting ..the exhibition continues for 2 weeks , held at the Kiama Leagues Club..

RIVER REFLECTIONS

Wallaby Rock Sofala

I have just returned from a fantastic 5 days on a painting trip with the ' Plein Air Girls' . This time we stayed at a farm B&B near Sofala , western NSW . The accommodation was perfect for our group . Our hosts Jan and Mike welcomed us like we were part of their family, gave us the run of the 300 hectare property to set up our easels . Jan served beautiful home cooked meals for breakfast and dinner..Mike provided entertainment with his excellent renditions of Australian poetry each evening after dinner . We took a trip into Hill End one day and had a great time looking around this old National Trust gold town.
This trip will definately remain in our memories as one of our best trips away . We put all of our paintings together on the last night for a mini exhibition and were amazed at how diverse our styles were , some work in oils , some watercolour and others in mixed media as well as acrylic ..others like to sketch in pencil and charcoal ..we will have quite a collection by the time our exhibition is held in October 2010..
If you are planning a holiday to this beautiful area I can highly recommend staying at the Chesleigh Homestead , Sofala ...the website is http://www.sofala.com.au/

This painting is called Wallaby Rock..painted close to where we stayed. it was a magical spot with the rocks so well reflected in the water..and was beautiful to paint this serene place..
